Two People Die in Fiery, Head-On Crash

Trooper: Pickup traveling 95 mph before fatal crash

In my 13 years of serving as an emergency responder chaplain, this was the worst motor vehicle accident I had ever been to. Beyond the indescribable damage done to the two trucks as a result of both the head on collision and the fire that ensued, there was the instant, unexpected loss of two lives.  Not only their families, but many friends and others are impacted.

As I stood among the wreckage and worked alongside of two dozen responders, witnesses, and other essential individuals, the weight of the situation’s brutality was crashing in, as if it was a series of ocean waves. Among this group, there are many responses.  Just as these realities strike each person on scene somewhat differently, so every person on scene who works in this field has to develop their own way of coping so they can continue living the healthiest manner possible.
