Fire Tragedy

When a resident awakens and quickly discovers significant smoke in her home, it is a shock. In this case, it is also a tragedy because the smoke source was a fire in the garage.

The bewilderment and grief were even multiplied because their home has now caught fire two winters in a row.

Many of us on scene were there last year when their garage and home suffered even greater fire damage.

As always, conversation helps the victims process their ordeal. Other aids I was able to provide were getting Red Cross involved on their behalf, loaning the male resident a coat, socks, and boots as he had promptly exited his home without even a shirt on. The fire department had provided him a t-shirt before I arrived.

A Braveheart volunteer will be conducting follow up to make sure this local family has what they need to navigate their crisis and to move forward with their lives.
