Coroner’s Compassion

Death notifications are difficult. There is no other way to describe the process of sharing with strangers that one of their loved ones has unexpectedly died.  While following some proven guidelines certainly benefits the recipients and makes the entire experience more professional, nothing can soften the blow of receiving such shocking news.

Following this accident, the coroner and I had the task of going to the home to share the sad outcome of the auto accident. Once he and I were seated with the appropriate adult, he spoke in a calm, caring, straightforward manner.  He answered all questions in a helpful manner.

As more family members arrived, and wanted information, we shared what we knew and sought to help in every way possible. In such circumstance, I appreciated the coroner’s professionalism and ability to fulfill a challenging assignment with compassion and thoroughness.
